Prologue
The Green Act is the name for our sustainability journey we have embarked on. The name was chosen as it combines both our sustainable (Green) journey and our theatre roots (Act). The overall strategy is supposed to guide us towards becoming Green Key Certified and at the same time to reflect our goals and actions towards being more sustainable hotels. We wish to inspire our guests and
partners to join us in creating a more sustainable future, where luxury and eco-consciousness harmoniously coexist. We would love to have you join us on this journey, where every stay at Kolpin Hotels is an invitation to experience hospitality with a purpose — a commitment to preserving our planet while embodying our core values.
KITCHEN
The hotel aims to reduce food waste through better sorting, reusing leftovers, and tracking waste patterns to minimize environmental impact. The hotel restaurant will focus even more on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. In addition, we are putting more focus on staff education and development.
Housekeeping
Housekeeping department introduced PureTech. The new system uses fewer cleaning products, minimizing waste and eliminating harmful chemicals, improving employee well-being. Housekeeping reports were also digitalized in 2023 to reduce paper use and improve communication.
PROCUREMENT
In 2023, the focus was on assessing the supply chain and partnering with those who share the hotel’s values. The goal for 2024 and beyond is to ensure efficient, cohesive operations across all properties, enhancing sustainability. Future plans include drafting a Supplier Code of Conduct and building partnerships with local suppliers wherever possible.
ENERGY AND WATER
The hotel has conducted energy audits to optimize usage and aims to focus on renewable energy sources. Sensor technology has been implemented in public toilets, and nearly all lighting fixtures have been upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs. For water conservation, Vision Watercare is being introduced to prevent limescale buildup, improving system efficiency and prolonging equipment lifespan.
OPERATIONS
Since February 2023, all three hotels transitioned to a cloud-based HMS system, reducing paper use and streamlining operations. Digital registration cards and emailed invoices further minimized paper consumption. Partnerships with AeroGuest and DigitalGuest enable guests to access information via QR codes. The partnership with Faundit aids in Lost & Found management, with an option to donate items and a tree planted for each returned package.
SINGLE USE PLASTIC
In July 2024, all single-use plastic toiletries were replaced with refillable, full-size bath products made in collaboration with a local Danish brand. This switch to refillable glass bottles significantly reduces plastic waste and supports the hotel’s mission to partner with local companies, with production and delivery being more sustainable. This initiative aims to ensure full use of the products.
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
A key project for 2024 focuses on engaging employees with the Green Act sustainability strategy and raising awarness on sustinability. The Whistleblower initiative has been introduced to address concerns about abuse or discrimination. To further involve staff, a sustainability-focused activity will be added to annual team-building events. Additionally, in 2024/25, the company will conduct a climate analysis to measure employee happiness and well-being.
